I really liked the look of the unit and the fcnotiuns that it offerred, and after seeing only 5-star reviews, I decided to purchase it. I wanted a good CD player, usb drive player, radio and it to function as an alarm clock. It provides an alarm, slowly increasing the volume of whatever you decide to wake up to, but no snooze. However, it does not provide a clock for very long. 15 mins after turning the unit to normal standby mode, the unit will enter Eco standby mode saving 1 watt, and the clock will no longer display. Therefore, I cannot see what time it is when looking at the unit. Also, when the clock is on (for the 15 mins), you have to look at the display straight on to actually read the display. I don’t understand why Philips designed it this way. I may now return it because one of the basic features that I desired (a clock) is not up to my standards. Otherwise the unit provides decent sound, pulls in FM stations pretty well, and has a lot of features. The remote works well, but the layout could be a little better.
I personally own the RCA Pearl. I bouhgt this Sansa Clip for my son. I wish I would have just bouhgt him a Pearl. My computer won’t recognize the Clip (phone calls to technical support were such a waste of time) so getting music onto this thing is an ordeal very time consuming, and it ends up being a multi-step process! The instructions in the box tell you to install the included software first, well what are you to do when there is no software in the box? And all it is is Rhapsody software anyway. I managed to get 30 songs onto the thing yesterday and he spent most of the day listening to them then down goes the battery here comes my biggest frustration YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE BATTERY!!! All you can do is recharge it which takes hours being connected to your computer!! Crazy!! I bouhgt this thing at Walmart so I will probably just dig the box out of the trash and return it, and do what I should have done all along buy him an RCA Pearl!! The Pearl is a snap to use, just plug it in and go, it works with many music software interfaces, it’s so easy to get music on it and it sounds great. There is NO WAY I would recommend the Sansa Clip to anyone!!
