BBC Line-Up for the 125th Wimbledon Championships

In this the 125th year of Wimbledon and the first ever for the BBC in 3D, the BBC continues to bring viewers all the colour and action from SW19 when it commences its live and exclusive coverage of the 2011 Championships on 20 June.
For the first time ever, the BBC will bring viewers 3D coverage of the Championships. The free-to-air broadcast of the Championships in 3D will be available to anyone who has access to a 3D TV set and to HD Channels, regardless of which digital TV provider they use. The Wimbledon finals will be available in 3D on the BBC HD channel – the BBC’s High Definition channel available through Freesat, Freeview and Virgin Media.
The live 3D coverage of the ladies’ and men’s finals on Saturday 2 July and Sunday 3 July will mark the 125th anniversary of the Wimbledon Championships.
The BBC team once again includes an enviable line-up of ex-champions and industry experts. Sue Barker will present live daytime and evening coverage on BBC One and BBC Two. The daily highlights show, Today At Wimbledon, will be presented by John Inverdale on BBC Two at 8pm each weekday. This year the team will again include former world No. 1 and Wimbledon champion Lindsay Davenport.
Lindsay will be part of a quality line-up including: Tim Henman, John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Pat Cash, John Lloyd, Greg Rusedski, Andrew Castle, Tracy Austin, Virginia Wade, Mark Petchey, David Mercer, Barry Davies, Mark Cox, Simon Reed, Andrew Cotter, Nick Mullins, Chris Bradnam, Matt Chilton, Liz Smylie, Sam Smith, Jo Durie, Jason Goodall, Louise Pleming, Paul Hand and Ron McIntosh. Reporters onsite adding daily colour to the Championships are Garry Richardson, Rishi Persad, Sonali Shah and Phil Jones.
As well as coverage on BBC One, BBC Two and the BBC One HD and the BBC HD channel, viewers will be able to follow the Championships via BBC Online, which is streaming all the live action direct to viewers’ PCs and offering live text commentaries via the mobile service. BBC Red Button will also offer a wide range of viewing options throughout Wimbledon and with BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra providing extensive coverage, interviews and commentary from Wimbledon, there are more ways than ever to follow the excitement and action this year.
BBC Red Button will offer a choice of up to six live matches, plus a highlights service and replays of the top matches. Viewers will also be able to switch between commentary and no-commentary options on selected live matches. When there is coverage on BBC One and BBC Two, Freeview will offer a choice of up to three matches. A digital text service will also be available with news, results and score updates. A match highlights package will also be available once play has finished each day.
The BBC Sport website will show live video from selected matches, including the showpiece courts, every day, as well as on-demand video highlights. Users of the website can also enjoy the 5 Live coverage, read our popular live text commentaries, view photo galleries and see results and schedule information. Away from the BBC site, tennis fans can interact with our journalists on Twitter and there’s also a new BBC Tennis page on Facebook (facebook.com/bbctennis).
BBC iPlayer will be offering up to two full matches every day of the tournament. Today At Wimbledon will also be available on demand from BBC iPlayer.

Can they do it again? Can they do it over and over? Can they do it when a scene isn’t that interesting?” I know that pro togs kick my ass in all of these regards. When I shoot my children’s sports, I get get some excellent shots. I bet that if I was sitting next to a pro tog I might get an excellent shot every 15-30 shots. The pro-tog probably gets an excellent shot every 5-15. The pro tog also has better post edit skills than I do. I’m sensitive to this as I have friends that are pro togs. I see their industry getting cannibalized. If I ever get into selling any of my sports shots what I plan on doing is concentrating on recreational sports. Will I charge lower prices? Sure. Why? Because I feel I offer an inferior product. Also I feel that many of the parents can’t afford the prices of a lot of these pictures. I hope not to cannibalize the market when I do because the tournaments will still be left to the pro’s. To get those shots, not only do the pro’s have the abilities, they also have a significant investment in equipment that I can’t match. People need to understand when you are paying a pro, you are paying for those abilities, and also for them to purchase the equipment that increases their odds of getting that shot. Just remember, if I show up w/ a 5K body and L glass it does not make me a pro, I still don’t have the skill and knowledge. I’m still just as the pro sports guys call em and Guy With Camera.
