on 12 22, 2011

Leighton Contractors has been awarded a $120 million, one-year contract extension for the provision of mining services at the Dawson Mine, operated by Anglo American.

The contract has also been expanded to include an additional excavator fleet to increase production capacity and scale up project management services.
Located in the lower Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, about 140 kilometres south west of Gladstone just outside Moura, the Dawson Mine is an open-cut coal operation with more than 174 million tonnes of existing coal reserves.

Steven Keyser, Executive General Manager of Leighton Contractors’ Resources Division, said he was delighted the company’s relationship with Anglo American would be extended.

“This contract extension and inclusion of additional services recognises the production and safety performance of our people at the mine. I look forward to the Leighton Mining team continuing our work there safely and efficiently while supporting our client’s future needs,” he said.
Leighton Mining has held the contract at Dawson Mine since 2010 and currently employs about 150 people at the mine.
